Imphal, June 15 2025:
Since May 2023, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has made 35 trips abroad, but he has found no "empathy" to go to Manipur where the people's distress, agony and suffering continues unabated, Congress leader Jairam Ramesh has said.
This after the Prime Minister embarked on a 3-Nation tour on Sunday to bolster India's international relations and cooperation in various sectors including trade and security.
While the Prime Minister has made 35 foreign trips, he has not visited Manipur and met with "NOBODY" from the State, wrote the Congress leader on X, in a scathing remark against the PM and his failure to resolve the over 2-year-old Manipur crisis.
"This is Mr Modi's 35th trip abroad since May 2023 .
He has all the energy, excitement, and enthusiasm--the 3 Es--for such visits.
But can he has not summoned a 4th E--empathy-- for going to Manipur where the people's distress, agony and suffering continues unabated? He has met with NOBODY from the State, let alone political leaders, since May 3,2023.Pathetic of the PM to treat Manipur in this awful manner," Jairam said.
"The Prime Minister leaves for Cyprus, Canada, and Croatia this morning.
There was a time when he boasted about his knowledge of algebra by spouting the (a+b)A2 equation as applicable to India and Canada.
But things went horribly wrong thereafter.
When it appeared that Canada was dragging its feet on the invite to India, Mr Modi's drumbeaters proclaimed that He would not go even if invited.
But like always, he stands exposed," said the Congress leader.
The Canadian Prime Minister has said that India has been invited to the G7 Summit along with a number of other non-G7 countries because India is the fifth largest economy in the world.
"Perhaps Mr Modi can remind him that according to the Niti Aayog CEO, India became the world's third largest economy on May 24, 2025," Jairam wrote.
On X, PM Modi had said, "Over the next few days, will be visiting Cyprus, Canada and Croatia to attend various programmes, including bilateral meetings and multilateral engagements" .
PM Modi arrived in Cyprus on Sunday, kicking off his five-day foreign tour.
In Cyprus, he will hold discussions with President Nikos Christodoulides on expansion of ties between the two countries in areas such as trade, investment, security and technology.
Next the PM will head to Kananaskis in Canada for the G7 Summit on June 16 and 17 .
He will visit Croatia on June 18 and return to India on June 19 .
