MLA leads vaccination drive at Kamjong

Imphal, July 08 2021: After a prolonged hesitation, locals of Shingkap, Marou and Shingta villages under Phungyar Sub-Division of Kamjong district have final agreed to get the vaccination shots against Covid.

It is reported that the locals of the three villages agreed to go for vaccination after a team led by Phungyar AC MLA K Leishiyo sensitised them (the villagers) about the benefits of getting vaccinated.

Kamjong Deputy Commissioner Worshang Hungyo; Phungyar SDO Daigong Gangmei; ADC member of Shingkap DCC, AS Somi Mayer; WHO representative Dr Deepak and medical staff of Phungyar PHC accompanied the MLA.

By the sideline of the visit, K Leishiyo appealed to the people to not believe in vaccine rumours and get vaccinated.

Saying that the Government is spending much time and money to keep the people safe during this pandemic, the MLA asked why the Government will spend on procuring cylinders, establishing Covid Care Centres if they don't think for the wellbeing of the masses.

"On what logic are they thinking that going for vaccination will ultimately kill them," the MLA further asked.

Continuing that Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chief Minister N Biren Singh and he himself have also been vaccinated against COVID-19, Leishiyo reasoned that they and many others received the Covid vaccines not to die but to live.

The Government is also putting in efforts to cover as many as people possible under the vaccination drive in the shortest possible time to save lives, he added.

"Only through vaccination, we can defeat this pandemic and restore the earlier pre-Covid days," the MLA said and appealed to all to get vaccinated at the earliest.

Saying that the coronavirus is becoming more and more virulent through rapid mutation and all will sink together if the vaccine hesitancy continues, Leishiyo added that this vaccine hesitancy will only worsen the economy of the people.

He then appealed to all to do their part and contribute in preventing the 3rd wave of the Covid pandemic hitting the State.

Worshang Hungyo, Daigong Gangmei and Dr Deepak also enlightened the locals of the efficiency of Covid vaccine in preventing the disease.

Later, the MLA, Worshang Hungyo and other officials took their 2nd dose of the Covid vaccine.
