Churachandpur, July 08 2021:
The awareness campaign on COVID-19 vaccination organised by the Pherzawl District Administration to curb the spread of COVID-19 pandemic and step up the pace of vaccination concluded today.
The awareness campaign was launched on July 6 by the Pherzawl District Administration.
A team led by Deputy Commissioner Mannuamching along with Lunzamung, Additional SP and Dr Phirthanglien Buhril, CMO, braved the rain and thunder storms in the hills to reach out to the far-flung villages.
"Vaccine hesitancy/reluctance in the areas is rooted fundamentally to religious belief and fear.
The perception of the side effects of the COVID-19 vaccine has also been exaggerated among the innocent villagers", Mannuamching said.
Against the odds, vaccination was being carried out in different villages of the district, she added.
The team had a tough time busting and dispelling the myths and misinformation around the Covid vaccine circulating in social media, traditional and religious beliefs which had a significant impact on the vaccination drive.
They also met "vaccine denialists" in the area to educate them on the importance of the vaccination drive against COVID-19.The medical team educated the masses of Tinsong, Pherzawl, Sikpuikon, Lungthulen, Parbung, Taithu and Damdiei villages on the benefits and probable side effects of the vaccine.
The District Administration also planted trees as a part of the Van Mahotsav, the annual tree planting festival in India.
