MHA fixes Aug 26 for talks with UNC

Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) advisor for North East AK Mishra on Wednesday extended an invitation to United Naga Council (UNC) to hold talks on the contentious scrapping of the Free Movement Regime (FMR) and border fencing on august 26 in New Delhi.
In the letter addressed to the UNC, AK Mishra informed that the meeting has been arranged to deliberate on the memorandum submitted to the ministry by the UNC .
It may be mentioned that Naga civil society organisations are opposed to scrapping of FMR and construction of border fencing in Naga inhabited areas, with their positions made known in memorandums addressed to the Prime Minister, Union home minister, minister of external affairs, minister of defence, serving a 20-day ultimatum to revoke the order of scrapping the FMR and immediate stoppage of construction of border fencing.
UNC, in their earlier statement, had declared to take up intense agitation if the central government does not pay heed to their warnings.
Meanwhile, a UNC delegation of over 10 leaders will hold talks with the central leaders on August 26 in New Delhi.
The present executives of UNC and former presidents, leaders of Naga Women Union (NWU) and All Naga Students' Association, Manipur (ANSAM) will attend the talk, according to Newmai News Network.
UNC president Ng Lorho told the Network that whether to go ahead with their planned agitation will depend on the outcome of the talks on August 26 .
He also said that the Nagas will not accept any dilly-dallying tactics by the government of India.
Lorho further stated that the approach of the Government of India should reflect the sentiment of the Naga people and their (Nagas) seriousness on the issue.
The Naga leaders will leave for New Delhi on August 25 .
