CID sleuth among six held in extortion, drug cases

Imphal, August 17 2025:
Two people including a policeman were apprehended by the public for extortion of money from the public using toy gun and handed them over to Andro police station on Saturday.
The arrested people are Md Asat (30) s/o Md Firoj of Yairipok Tulihal and Md Amumacha (40) s/o (L) Khullakpam Tomcha of Yairipok Tapokpi.
Amucha is a policeman, currently attached to CID.
According to a police report, locals caught the duo while they were carrying out extortion activities in Yairipok Top Laimang area using a 9mm toy gun around 7.30pm Saturday.
They were handed over to Andro PS with the toy gun for initiation of legal action.
Meanwhile, security forces arrested a cadre of KCP (PWG), identified as Yumnam Milanjit Meitei (33) of Lairenkabi Awang Leikai Mamang Leirak on Saturday.
According to a statement of Manipur Police Control Room, Milanjit was picked up from Ghari Makha Leikai under Lamphel police station for his involvement in extortion from colleges and the public in the valley area.
A mobile phone was seized from his possession.
The same day, security personnel arrested Md Arub Khan Ipham alias Khansa (26) of Kwakta Khuman Ward No 5, from Kwakta Sabal Leikai along NH-02 under Phougakchao Ikhai PS in Bishnupur district.
Police said that he was caught with 10 soap cases containing heroin weighing 113 grams, a four-wheeler vehicle, and a mobile handset with a SIM card.
In another operation the same day, two drug smugglers were arrested from Kwakta Terak hongshangbi Bazar along NH-02 under Moirang PS.
The arrested individuals were identified as Md Najeruddin alias Babu Phisubam (42), and Md Altab Khan alias Boy Moijingmayum (31), both residents of Kwakta Ward No 8 .
Security forces recovered 22 soap cases containing heroin weighing 256 grams, a four-wheeler, and two mobile phones from their possession.
Police also continued crackdown on motor vehicle offences.
On Sunday, 41 challans amounting to Rs 79,000 were issued to traffic violators while tinted films were removed from 15 vehicles on Saturday.
