Imphal, July 14 2025:
Chandel Naga People's Organisation (CNPO) has strongly condemned alleged hijacking of a vehicle by Kuki volunteers at Kanan Kuki village under Chakpikarong sub-division in Chandel.
In a statement issued by its Information and Publicity cell, CNPO said the incident took place around 2:48 pm on February 5, when a JCB 3DX excavator (Registration No MN04C0667), owned by MK Rangkanmi Chothe of Chadongpokpi village, was intercepted near Kanan Kuki village.
The organisation noted that the same vehicle had earlier been taken and kept at the AR camp in Haibijang during the outbreak of the Kuki-Meetei conflict in May 2023 .
The owner later submitted all valid documents, including the vehicle's chassis and engine numbers.
Following a thorough verification process, the AR officially released the vehicle to him.
However, the CNPO stated that on February 5, the vehicle was again seized by Kuki volunteers.
Despite promptly informing the 28 Sector AR about the incident, no response or action has been taken so far to recover the vehicle or hold the perpetrators accountable.
Describing the act as a serious breach of law and order, CNPO said the hijacking represents a violation of civilian rights in a region already grappling with instability.
It also highlighted the economic hardship faced by the vehicle's owner and expressed concern over the apparent inaction of security forces, which it said undermines public safety and trust in the law enforcement apparatus.
The CNPO called for immediate intervention from the district administration and law enforcement agencies, and urged the Assam Rifles and other responsible security forces to take swift action to recover the vehicle and ensure that those involved in the hijacking, are brought to justice.
It also stressed the need to protect civilian property and restore public confidence in areas affected by ongoing tensions.
The organisation warned that the silence and inaction of the authorities in such cases only embolden lawlessness and further erode public trust.
It appealed for urgent attention and decisive measures from authorities concerned.
