Imphal, May 10 2025:
Manipur Government Services Federation (MGSF) and the Manipur State Pensioners' Union (MSPU) have informed the state government that they will stage a symbolic protest on May 20, in support of a nationwide strike called by the All-India State Government Employees Federation (AISGEF) and other national-level organisations of employees, workers, and pensioners.
In a memorandum submitted to the chief secretary, MGSF and MSPU stated that while they support the nationwide call for strike, a full-scale protest will not be observed in the state due to the prevailing disturbed conditions.
Instead, a symbolic protest will be held to reiterate their support and draw attention to their long-pending demands.
The nationwide strike aims to press for several key demands including the repeal of all four existing Labour Codes and the PFRDA Act, scrapping of NPS/UPS and restoration of the Old Pension Scheme (OPS) .
The protest also seeks the regularisation of all contractual, work charge, muster roll and casual employees serving in various departments of the state government through a rule-based procedure and calls for filling up all regular vacancies on a regular basis.
Other demands include halting further privatisation and corporatisation of Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) and stopping the arbitrary downsizing of government departments.
The memorandum also called for the constitution of a State Pay Commission to ensure periodical pay revision for state government employees and demands pay revision every five years.
MGSF and MSPU further urged the government to release all pending Dearness Allowance (DA) instalments along with the confiscated DA arrears.
They also demanded implementation of a comprehensive health insurance scheme with government support for all employees and workers.
In addition, the protest calls for the abandonment of the National Education Policy (NEP), 2019, repeal of Article 310 and 311 (2) a, b & c of the Indian Constitution, and redefinition of Centre-State financial relations to safeguard the spirit of cooperative federalism.
MGSF and MSPU reiterated that these demands were previously submitted to the state government through a memorandum on April 7, 2025 .
