FOGSI leads quality care initiative in maternity hospitals

In an effort to combat high maternal mortality rate (MMR) in the state, Federation of Obstetric & Gynaecological Societies of India (FOGSI) organised an event on April 29 to showcase its state saturation approach towards enhancing the capacities of private maternity care facilities in the state.
In a statement, FOGSI informed that the initiative, aimed at addressing the pressing maternal health challenges, has achieved significant traction, with over 66 per cent of maternity facilities in Manipur enrolling under the Manyata initiative, marking a substantial milestone in the quest to improve maternal health outcomes across the state.
During the event, Manyata certification was conferred upon nine maternity facilities that successfully met the stringent assessment criteria, signalling a pivotal step forward in ensuring safer deliveries and better maternal care for women in the state.
Over 170 healthcare staff members have undergone up-skilling through this initiative, positively impacting the childbirth experiences of more than 2500 women statewide.
The statement informed that the event witnessed the presence of key stakeholders, including state government representatives such as state nodal officer of maternal health, National Health Mission, Manipur Dr Meena Seram and health director Dr Oinam Sanahanbi.
FOGSI leaders, including Manyata's national convenor Dr Hema Divakar, and immediate past president of FOGSI Dr Hrishikesh Pai, participated virtually, underscoring the collaborative efforts towards improving maternal healthcare.
Manyata, FOGSI's quality improvement and certification initiative, sets the benchmark for consistent, safe, and respectful care for mothers during and after childbirth.
Aligned with the WHO standards, Manyata promotes evidence-based clinical standards across antenatal, intra-partum, and postpartum care.
Moreover, the event served as a platform to launch Dr James Elangbam's Acme Fertility and Healthcare Centre as a Centre for Skill Excellence (CSE) .
Dr James, a gynaecologist in Manipur, will spearhead quality improvement trainings on Manyata standards, aiming to ensure high-quality maternity healthcare services across private hospitals in the state.
National convenor Dr Hema Divakar emphasised the transformative impact of Manyata, stating, "Through innovation and collaboration, Manyata is shaping a brighter future for women's health.
The progress witnessed in Manipur underscores our commitment to elevating healthcare standards for all women" .
FIGO Asia Oceania trustee, and chief administrator of FOGSI-Manyata initiative Dr Hrishikesh D Pai, reiterated FOGSI's dedication to bringing quality maternal care to every corner of the country, leaving no woman behind in their mission to promote safe and equitable childbirth experiences nationwide.
Dr Meena Seram expressed optimism about reducing maternal mortality ratio and promoting healthy pregnancies through concerted efforts and innovative approaches as Dr Oinam Sanahanbi stressed the importance of prioritising maternal and new-born well-being, advocating for strategic partnerships and evidence-based interventions to ensure accessible, quality healthcare services for all women in the state.
FOGSI's initiative in the state highlights a collaborative effort towards achieving significant progress in maternal health outcomes, paving the way for a healthier future for generations to come, added the statement.
