UNLF vows to safeguard integrity of Manipur
Source: Chronicle News Service

Imphal, February 09 2024: The Pambei-led United National Liberation Front (UNLF) celebrated 37th Raising Day of its armed wing - Manipur People's Army (MPA) at Marjing Battalion of Brigade 1 of MPA's general headquarters located at Sagolmang in Imphal East district on Friday.

The Raising Day celebration at the Marjing battalion was attended by UNLF-Pambei acting chairman M Nongyai as chief guest, external & regional affairs secretary Th Sidabamapu as president and general secretary Ch Thanil, finance secretary I Tonsana, secretary (organisation) S Nongdol and assistant secretary (HRD) O Loyumba as guests of honour.

Khwairamband Ima Keithel Joint Coordinating Committee convener Laishram Memma, FOCS secretary general Angom Punil Kumar and UMO president M Sorojini also attended the event as special invitees.

Acting chairman Nongyai led party leaders, cadres and people in paying homage to martyred revolutionaries and observed two minutes' silence in honour of those martyred in the course of revolutionary movement.

Speaking at the commemorative event, Nongyai affirmed that the Front's commitment to safeguard territorial integrity of Manipur remains unchanged and will fight against any force that schemes to disintegrate Manipur.

At one point of time, the Kukis helped the outfit and vice-versa but the present situation in Manipur has changed everything.

The Kukis instigated by their in-tellectuals/bureaucrats are now demanding homeland and attacking the Meeteis without realising that those against disintegration of Manipur as well as the Meeteis will steadfastly oppose the homeland demand, he declared while hastening to add that all Kukis should not be considered as enemy.

According to Nongyai, the Meetei community had been in slumber for a protracted period whereas the evolving situation in Manipur necessitated training of village volunteers as part of the preparation fight unitedly against those plotting to break apart the land.

He also clarified to the people that UNLF-Pambei did not lay down arms though it entered into peace talks with the government.

With regard to celebration of the MPA raising day on Friday, a UNLF-Pambei statement informed that the commemorative event was held widely across Manipur and beyond.

Though the main celebration was held at the Front's CHQ and MPA GHQ, the 37th anniversary was also held at 1st, 2nd and 3rd Brigades of CHQ as also at 291; 292,293,241,242, Pakhangba, Thangjing, Marjing, Koubru, and Nongpok Ningthou battalions as well as sub-units.

The statement issued by its media coordinator Charairongba Thokchom further said that the Raising Day was celebrated in various districts of Manipur with active participation of the people.

The Raising Day at 1st Brigade and 2nd Brigade headquarters had the participation of MPA leaders, officers, NCOs and privates while the celebration at 3rd Brigade was attended by GSO-1 major Khanba as president.

Another celebration in Imphal West district was attended by secretary (HRD) S Tamphajao as president, secretary (project and operations) S Pankhei and assistant secretary Th Ningtamba as guests of honour and CSOs and club leaders.

The 37th Raising Day of MPA celebration organised by the department of external affairs outside Manipur was attended by assistant secretary Kh Sanahal as president, the statement added.

According to the UN-LF-Pambei statement, the main celebration at Marjing Battalion was marked with unfurling of the party's flag by the acting chairman, revolutionary salute to martyrs, observance of two minutes' silence and offering of floral tributes for/to martyred revolutionaries.
