Many hail centre for scrapping of FMR

Various civil society organisations commended the central government, specifically Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and state's chief minister N Biren, for scrapping the Free Movement Regime (FMR) and decision to construct fence along the border with Myanmar.
In separate releases, Clubs and Meira Paibis of Moidangpok (CMPM), Peace & Development Coordinating Committee (PDCC) and People's Alliance for Peace and Progress prayed for eternal peace of the martyred souls and assured to firmly stand with families of those who made the sacrifice for the state and country.
They acknowledged the proactive role of PM Narendra Modi, Union home minister Amit Shah and CM N Biren Singh during the externally influenced conflict, which started on May 3.Stating that the state is not new to such conflicts, they recalled the Kuki-Naga, Meitei-Pangal and Kuki-Paite clashes and said that during those tumultuous times, the then government at the centre as well as in the state did not show even an iota of concern for its citizens.
Understanding the problem of illegal influx from across the neighbouring country, the present government started biometric registration to detect illegal immigrants from the lists of voters and Aadhaar card holders.
Acknowledging that for safeguard of interest of the indigenous people of Manipur, the government is taking up impenetrable hi-tech border fencing on priority basis besides scrapping the Free Movement Regime with Myanmar, they also proposed implementation of NRC and deportation of illegal immigrants from the state to their respective countries.
Meanwhile, PAPPM lauded the central and state governments for the implementation of ILP, setting up of population commission, destruction of poppy cultivation and other activities for protecting and safeguarding the indigenes in the state.
It urged the people to come out on the roads and raise slogans 'Save Manipur, Save India', 'Go back double standard Assam Rifles' on February 15 .
