Counter blockade underway in Thoubal, Bishnupur

In counter-steps against the ban imposed on selling essential commodities to state forces in Moreh by Kuki militants and CSOs, people of Thoubal and Bishnupur districts launched counter blockade by stopping transportation of goods heading towards Tengnoupal and Churachandpur districts on Friday.
Internally displaced people who are taking shelter in relief camps set up at Wangjing Kodompokpi Sports Complex and Lamding Higher Secondary School, along with denizens of Thoubal district and members of different clubs, CSOs and Meira Paibi groups enforced the counter blockade along NH 102 at Tentha Lamkhai on Friday from 5.30 am.
Protestors checked vehicles to ascertain whether the commodities are being transported to Kuki inhabited areas.
They said that the counter blockade will continue until Kuki Village Volunteers, Tengnoupal Eastern Zone withdraw the restriction imposed on shop-keepers from selling essential commodities to the state forces in the border town.
Similarly, Meitei Co-ordinating Committee Tronglaobi to Torbung and Waikhurok enforced counter blockade in different areas of Bishnupur district including Tronglaobi, Terakhongshangbi, Khudekpi, Kwakta Pangal Lamkhai, Kwakta Bazar, Phougakchao Ikhai and Torbung.
Large number of local people and displaced people including women were seen checking vehicles bound for Churachandpur district.
Committee president Y Tomba said that people of Moirang, Thanga and Kumbi assembly constituencies as well as local CSOs are fully supporting the counter blockade.
They will continue the blockade until the ban on selling essential commodities to state security forces in Moreh is lifted.
All Kwakta Co-ordinating Committee advisor Md Anwar Ali said that clubs, associations and CSOs of Kwakta area will endorse the counter blockade, and appealed to the people to stop carrying commodities to Churachandpur and to express solidarity to the state security forces.
