Joint convention endorses Nationwide protest

All India Trade Union Congress Manipur & Joint Coordinating Committee convenor L Sotinkumar on Thursday announced that a campaign will be launched in connection with the Nationwide protest called by a joint forum of trade unions & farmers bodies on February 16, to protest against the "anti-worker, anti-farmer and anti-national policies" of the Central Government.
Addressing a press conference at Irawat Bhawan, L Sotinkumar informed that a joint convention of all the farmers organisations, central trade unions, trade unions, and independent sectoral federations of banks, postal service, LIC, BSNL, etc was conducted on Wednesday at Irawat Bhawan in connection with the upcoming nationwide protest.
He said that the joint convention had a threadbare discussion on how to carry out the nationwide protest in Manipur
on February 16 .
He continued that the convention also unanimously adopted certain resolutions including demanding the Government to find a political solution to end the ongoing conflict in Manipur, set up highway protection force to protect innocent civilians along the highways and to fence the Indo-Myanmar border to prevent illegal immigration from across the border at the earliest.
Sotinkumar also shared that all the unions, associations, federations, etc have been notified to submit their proposed line of action for the upcoming nationwide protest to the joint committee before February 10 .
He asserted that on February 16, banks will remain closed in the State and all the employees of banks, LIC, Post Office & BSNL will stage protest demonstrations against the "anti-worker, anti-farmer and anti-national policies" of the Central Government.
"Other unorganised workers will also stage protests at various places", said Sotinkumar while adding that barbers of the State have already announced to close down their shops in support of the nationwide protest.
Sotinkumar further conveyed that the joint convention also resolved to highlight the various problems/ issues faced by the trade unions, farmer organisations, associations, etc in the State during the protest.
