Girls on top as state records 94 pc pass rate

Council of Higher Secondary Education, Manipur (CoHSEM) on Friday declared the results of the Higher Secondary Examination (HSE), 2025, recording an overall pass percentage of 94 per cent.
A total of 27,175 students, 13,806 female, cleared the examination out of the 28,909 who appeared.
Notably, girl students topped in all three streams.
In the stream-wise performance, the Science stream recorded the highest pass percentage at 95.45 with 19,900 students clearing the exam out of 20,848 who appeared.
The Commerce stream followed with a pass percentage of 92.06 as 487 students passed out of 529.In the Arts stream, 6,788 out of 7,532 candidates passed, registering a pass percentage of 90.12.Results of 10 private candidates were kept withheld and they are informed to contact the controller of examinations immediately for clearance of their resuits.
Seven candidates, four male and three female were expelled on the charge of impersonation.
All of them are students of Nongpok Maheikol, Brahmapur Aribam Leikai.
They are debarred from appearing in HSE for the year 2026 and 2027 but may sit in the HSE 2028 .
Compared to previous years, the 2025 examination saw a slight drop in pass percentage from 97.63 per cent in 2024 to 94 per cent, although the numbers remain higher than 2023's 88.68 per cent.
A total of 1,391 candidates passed with distinction this year, as compared to 3,557 in 2024 and 495 in 2023.The performance of private institutions surpassed that of government schools.
Out of 20,075 candidates from private schools and colleges, 19,204 passed, recording a pass percentage of 95.66.Government institutions saw 8,834 students appear, of which 7,946 cleared the exam, yielding a pass rate of 89.95 per cent.
Tengnoupal and Pherzawl districts achieved a perfect 100 per cent result with 116 candidates from the former and two from the latter scaling the annual examination.
Thoubal followed with pass percentage of 98.88 followed closely by Imphal East at 96.93, Kakching 95.91, and Imphal West 95.86 percent.
Noney district reported a pass percentage of 96.04, while Bishnupur stood at 94.99.Jiribam and Ukhrul reported the lowest pass percentages at 77.01 and 78.08 respectively.
The top three position holders in the Science stream are Riya Khwairakpam of Comet School, Changangei, Ucheckon (490 out of 500 marks), Mediciana Moirangthem of Herbert School, Changangei (483 marks), and Silvia Lukram of Comet School and Laikhuram Linthoi Chanu of Pioneer Academy, Bamon Kampu (479 each) .
In the Arts stream, Keisham Hannah Devi of Enlighten Knowledge Higher Secondary School, Sangakpham topped with 479 marks, followed by schoolmates Harsh Maisnam (476) and Sagolsem Inunganbi Chanu (473) .
In Commerce stream, TG Higher Secondary School, Imphal secured all the top three positions with Warepam Lidia Devi securing 463 marks, Yaifabi Sapam (434), and Devia Mayengbam and Prithita Yumnam (427 each).
Albert Paonam of Sangai Higher Secondary School secured the fourth position with 422 marks.
The results declaration function was attended by education (S) secretary N Praveen as chief guest.
COHSEM chairman T Ojit, secretary Kh Ashikumar, additional director of education (valley) Bisheshwar Khumukcham, and controller of examinations O Joy were also present.
Speaking at the event, Praveen recalled that the examinations were conducted from February 17 to March 26 amid several challenges, but the results were declared earlier than in past years to facilitate timely college admissions.
He credited the council officials and examiners for the timely declaration, and assured that government school infrastructure will be improved further.
Chairman Ojit expressed gratitude to the officials, police, and student bodies for their support, while noting that this year's practical examinations were held before the theory papers, which helped in early result processing.
He said nodal officers were deployed in hill districts where council teams could not reach, while all valley examination centres were visited.
Examiners were trained in advance for better assessment.
Meanwhile, the Council informed that the original statement of marks for the HSE, 2025 will be issued through the office of the respective principals after one week (counting only working days) from the result declaration.
Only passed candidates may apply for the provisional statement of marks using the prescribed form available from April 28 to May 2 between 10 am and 1 pm on working days, by paying Rs 120 for the form and Rs 720 as fee.
The provisional statement will be issued after 2 pm on the next working day following submission.
According to CoHSEM, provisional certificates, intended for students seeking admission outside the state, will be issued only to those who have obtained the provisional statement of marks.
The application form for the certificate costs Rs 120 with a normal fee of Rs 720 or Rs 960 for emergency cases.
Improvement candidates may appear in the examination to be held in May 2025.Those with two failed subjects may choose one subject now and appear for the remaining in the next main exam.
Candidates may apply for rechecking from May 6 to 15 by submitting the prescribed form and paying Rs 2400 per subject, it added.
