Imphal, July 24 2019: A self styled 2nd lieutenant of PLA/ RPF, identified as one Laishram Priyokumar, has been remanded to judicial custody by Special Court, NIA, Manipur today afternoon, for an ambush carried out against a road opening party of 4th Assam Rifles on November 15, 2017 .

Laishram Priyokumar Meitei alias Amuthoi s/o (L) Naba of Yairipok Top Mayai leikai, had been lodged in Manipur Central Jail Sajiwa after he was arrested by Imphal PS on June 12 this year, before he was formally arrested by NIA on July 5 after taking due permission.

A team of NIA produced Priyokumar before the Court (after completion of 20 days police custody remand) along with a prayer for remanding him to judicial custody for 15 days.

The accused was not represented by any counsel and such, the Legal Aid Counsel of the Court was instructed to assist him.

After hearing the Special PP and the counsel, the Court observed that charges levelled against the accused are for his involvement in the ambush on an ROP of 4th Assam Rifles at Chamol-Sajik Tampak road on November 15, 2017, by cadres of PLA RPF and MNPF, resulting in the death of one AR personnel, severely injuring another personnel.

Two UGs were also killed in the incident.

The Court, after considering the serious nature of the offence, allowed the prayer of the NIA and remanded Priyokumar to judicial custody for 15 days, till August 7 .

The Court further instructed CJM Imphal East to record Priyokumar's statement and also directed SP Manipur Central Jail Sajiwa to keep Priyokumar under segregation till his statement is recorded.

It may be mentioned after the ambush, NIA registered a case on March 29 last year.

On December 17 last year, Special Court NIA Manipur allowed the application filed by Additional SP/ Chief Investigation Officer, NIA Camp, Guwahati, to declare self styled captain of PLA/ RPF, Koijam Ibochouba alias Sumo alias Keisho alias Somo s/o Gourahari of Yairipok Malom Mamang Leikai, self styled 2nd lieutenant of PLA/ RPF Mayanglambam Siromain alias Kesper alias Casper S/o Romesh of Kakching Khunou Angom Leikai and self styled lance corporal of PLA/RPF, Thokchom Ningthemba alias Ningthem alias Feiroijamba s/o Indrajit of Wapokpi Mamang Leikai, as wanted in connection with the case.
