Crimes against Manipuris discussed

Imphal, August 14 2013: Taking serious note over the increasing crimes committed against the people of Manipur in other parts of the country, a day-long public meeting was held under the aegis of Paradise United Mentor Association (PUMA) at the ground of Khomidok Arapti Primary School in Khabeisoi Kkomidok Karong today.

Participating in the meeting, Sobita Mangsatabam, Secretary of Women Action for Development (WAD) stated that India was under the British rule for many years and its people had experienced untold sufferings under the British Raj.

However, the suffering of the people of Manipur under the Indian rule is 100 times more in comparison to the suffering that Indians had experienced under British rule.

It has been 65 years since India becomes an independent country.

However, the people of Manipur still suffers the pain and agony of the crimes committed against them by the Indian government.

India still cannot look at Manipur with the same eye as it looks to other States of the country.

The State has been deprived of all its shares and opportunities by the Central Government, she maintained.

It is because of this glaring indifferent attitude of Indian Government that the number of unemployed youths and the poor has been increasing in Manipur, Sobita asserted.

She further charged the Ministers, MLAs and concerned officials of the State Government with remaining silent over suffering of the people in Manipur under AFSPA like rape and killing of many innocent women and children by the security personnel.

Moreover, the Indian Government is supplying a whole lot of narcotic drugs into the State and trying to spoil the lives of the youths.

Unfortunately, the Government of Manipur instead of trying to stop this illegal drug trafficking is getting itself involved in the crime.

As such there is a need to put an end to all these illegal activities which will wipe out the State of Manipur in the long run, she exhorted.

The meeting was also attended by Badur Rehman, Member of Khomidok Karong Zilla Parishad; Tajur Ali, ward member of Khabeisoi ward number 3 and Sanjoy, Headmaster of Khomidok Arapti Primary School as Chief Guest, President and Guest of Honour respectively.

Social Activist Dhanabir Laishram was among others who addressed the meeting.
