MPs urged to make PM speak on Manipur issues
Source: Chronicle News Service

Imphal, December 06 2023: Apart from urging the three MPs from Manipur to precisely highlight the continuing genocide in Manipur at Parliament in the ongoing winter session, Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) president K Meghachandra has appealed to the three MPs to take initiative for making the Prime Minister speak about Manipur issue and raise various questions to restore normalcy in the state.

Addressing media persons at Congress Bhawan, here, on Wednesday, Meghachan dra strongly condemned the cold-blooded murder of 13 youths in Tengnoupal district and expressed fear as to when will such mass killing, genocide in Manipur stop.

The place where the incident happened is not far from Assam Rifles post and it's disheartening that all the unarmed 13 youths were killed at once, he said.

According to the Congress MLA, mass killing since May 3 continues unabated for more than seven months and the government remains unresponsive to such killings.

Indian leaders particularly the home minister and the Prime Minister made no comment regarding the mass killing on social media but AICC expressed condolence, he said and questioned the reason behind silence of the double engine government.

When cyclone killed some people in Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Puducherry, PM Narendra Modi tweeted on 'X' at 12.26 pm to show concerns of the suffering citizens of the nation.

However, the PM remains silent and expressed no word about the suffering people of Manipur whose houses have been torched and are taking shelter in relief camps for more than seven months.

In view of the state government's inaction and the Centre's lacklustre stand on the crisis in Manipur, people are now questioning as to how long they will remain as bonafide citizens of the country, Meghachandra said, adding that Central leaders are sharing their tweets about political achievements and activities though never made any comment on unfortunate incidents in the state.

Due to the violence since May 3 , mobile internet was banned for more than seven months.

However, the ban was lifted on the evening of counting of votes for elections held in five states.

This shows attempt to take political mileage in every step and activity taken up by BJP government, Meghachandra alleged.

When leaders and different sections of people from other states condemned unwanted incidents in Manipur, the chief minister of the state never responded or made any remark but celebrated in grand manner when results of elections in other states were declared, Meghachandra noted.

He then urged three MPs from Manipur to highlight the ongoing genocide in Manipur on the floor of Parliament and take initiative towards bringing a concrete solution to end the violence.

According to the MPCC president, the state government's answers to root causes of the present problem in Manipur were never same and all their answers were to divert the issue only.

Initially, government cited narco-terrorism as the main cause of the problem and then cited refugee, border fencing, free movement regime and poppy plantation as chief factors for the crisis.

However, the present problem is caused by India's mishandling of international geopolitical issues and this was made clear even by the Prime Minister and the External Affairs Minister, Meghachandra claimed and maintained that India's mistake and double standard in foreign policy led to the current crisis in Manipur.

MPCC also condemned the killing of 13 persons at Leithao village in Tengnoupal district and questioned the state government for its silence over the incident.

Describing the 'brutal' killing of the 13 persons on Monday as very unfortunate and strongly condemning the same, Meghanchandra said: "It s been over seven months since violence began in the state.

The failure of the government to tackle the situation is concerning.

MPCC is disappointed on the silence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah over the incident".

"AICC and Congress leaders have expressed concerns on the incident.

The double engine government of the BJP at the Centre and the state has failed to come up with any statement.

People want to know how long such violence and killings will continue," he said.
