Court orders hand over of accused to CBI

Special Judge in-charge, NIA Imphal West today passed an order to hand over one 33 years old Laishram Prem to CBI SIT Manipur camp office, Guwahati from Sajiwa Central Jail for investigation in connection looting of arms from 2nd IRB Naranseina under Moirang police station in August first week.
Accused Laishram Prem (33) s/o Shantikumar of Thoubal Okram and Khumukcham Dhiren alias Thakappa (41) s/o (L) Nilamani of Nambol Phoijing were arrested by a team of Imphal West district commando on November 22 along with arms and ammunition.
While Prem was remanded in judicial custody on December 2, Dhiren was formally re-arrested by Heingang police station in connection with another FIR case registered at Heingang police station.
The IO of CBI SIT Manipur camp office, Guwahati submitted that in pursuant to a notification issued by the Govt of Manipur and Govt of India, CBI took over the investigation of an FIR registered at Moirang police station on August 3 and re-registered the case for investigation.
In compliance with an order passed by the Supreme Court, CJM Bishnupur transferred the case record/documents pertaining to the case to CJM Kamrup (Metro), Guwahati, Assam.
Yesterday, CJM Kamrup granted five days CBI custody of Laishram Prem till December 9 and directed CBI to provide the information to the Special Judge, NIA Court Imphal West.
Presenting the facts and circumstances of the case, the IO prayed the Special Judge, NIA Imphal West to give CBI permission to take Laishram Prem in their custody who is presently lodged in Manipur Central Jail, Sajiwa.
The Court, after hearing the submission of the IO and in view of the direction passed by the CJM Kamrup (Metro), allowed CBI to take custody of Laishram Prem Singh into their custody till December 9 .
