Imphal, December 06 2023:
Cutting cake in Imphal for election victory in other States while Manipur is burning is very shameful and appalling, said women vendors of Khwairamband Keithel taking an apparent swipe at Chief Minister N Biren Singh and the Manipur Pradesh BJP today.
The women vendors vehemently condemned the killing of 13 Meitei youths including minors at Tengnoupal's Leithao village on December 4 and have urged the Government to investigate the incident.
At a press meet held at Khwairamband Keithel today, Khwairamband Ema Keithel Joint Coordinating Committee convenor, Laishram Mema said the law seems to be applied and enforced only in the valley.
"There seems to be no law in some districts in the hills" .
Since May 3, many civilians including young students have gone missing and many have been killed in areas dominated by Kukis.
The Government, however, has so far failed to trace the missing as well as the bodies of those killed, she said.
The law hasn't been enforced uniformly and as such, the Government has remained a mute spectator in all incidents that have happened in the hills, she said.
The Government must give an answer for the "differential" application of the law in the valley and the hills.
It must enforce the Indian law uniformly across Manipur, she Mema said.
Instead of cutting cake for election victory in other States, the Government must focus on bringing peace in Manipur, she said.
