Imphal, June 06 2025:
Devastating floods triggered by nearly a week of persistent rains have wreaked havoc across Manipur, affecting more than 164,000 residents and causing extensive damage to over 35,000 homes.
The natural disaster has forced the evacuation of over 10,000 people and led to significant losses of agriculture and livestock.
In a statement, Arambai Tenggol PRO Robin Mangang said that the flood claimed the life of one T Ibochouba, whose body was recovered by Arambai Tenggol from Lairenkabi Mamang Leikai area.
The floods have also caused injuries, damaged crops in over 80,000 hectares, and resulted in substantial livestock losses.
"More than 10,000 people have been evacuated so far and our relief efforts continue in multiple flood-affected areas," the release said.
It also highlighted the scale of the rescue operations, stating that Arambai Tenggol's 40,000 volunteers are working alongside the Indian Army, Assam Rifles, Manipur Police, National Disaster Response Force, State Disaster Response Force, local volunteers and civil society organisations.
"Our joint mission focuses on rescuing stranded residents and providing essential supplies, including food, drinking water and medical aid, at over 70 relief camps established across the state," the release added.
Arambai Tenggol also appealed to the public to avoid spreading misinformation.
"We urge the people of Manipur to support rescue operations by refraining from sharing misleading photos or videos that could disrupt coordination or unfairly damage the reputation of agencies involved," the statement said, adding: "It is disheartening to note that some individuals have resorted to uploading photos and videos on social media that not only tarnish the image of the Arambai Tenggol but also show disrespect towards other agencies" .
Arambai Tenggol also praised the professionalism and dedication of all agencies working on the ground.
"The Indian Army, Assam Rifles, Manipur Police and our partner organisations have shown exemplary commitment during this crisis," it remarked.
While calling for collective action, the statement said "The current floods in Manipur have caused immense damage and have left many people in dire need of help.
It is vital for everyone, especially the people of Manipur, to come together and support the rescue and relief operations instead of engaging in activities that hinder these efforts.
Let us unite and stand strong in the face of this disaster, and with the combined efforts of various agencies, we can overcome this crisis" .
