Imphal, July 05 2025:
Some cadres of United People s Party of Kangleipak (UPPK), which is preparing for talks with the government, have left the Yaithibi Loukol camp with weapons without informing the organisation's chairman.
In a press meet held at his residence at Khurai Thoudam Leikai Chingangbam Leirak on Saturday, UPPK chairman Konthoujam Homeshwor (Chingkhei) stated that apart from UPPK, three other armed organisations are staying at the camp located at Yaithibi Loukol in Kakching district.
On Friday, Some cadres of UPPK secretly left the camp with weapons without informing him or the camp commander.
It is not yet known how many weapons have taken by the cadres, who have been identified as general secretary Lemba (Ahead), home secretary Roni, finance secretary Konthou, defence secretary Ingenjao, deputy finance secretary Manikanta (Khumanlakpa), and organisation secretary Kabi Khuba.
The chairman further said that a meeting of the organisation's central committee was held on Friday, but the mentioned cadres failed to attend.
They gave the excuse that they had been summoned by Bishnupur SP and assured that they would attend the meeting after returning from the police station.
However, the SP informed that they had not been summoned.
Stating that UPPK was revived with the objective of restoring normalcy in Manipur following the May 3 clashes, Homeshwor said that the outfit had not declared, and would never declare, war against the central or state governments.
He said that Lemba (Ahead) had initially approached him to revive UPPK, after which Homeshwor assumed the role of chairman and a central committee was formed with the aforementioned cadres.
In compliance with the government's request for integration, UPPK had been cohabiting with other outfits at the Yaithibi Loukol camp.
Unfortunately, Lemba (Ahead) was later found involved in extortion activities and handling private cases of the public, in addition to absconding from the camp with weapons.
Stressing that UPPK is not allowed to extort money from the public or handle their private disputes, Homeshwor asserted that anyone found doing so in the name of the party must be handed over to the police or any other law enforcement agency.
