Imphal, April 30 2024:
Apart from extending May Day greetings to the people, the armed Socialist Revolutionary Party (SOREPA) offered its highest respect to the working class people of WESEA region and all over the world.
The outfit also extended revolutionary salute to all the labourers across the globe martyred during labours' movement against capitalists and for ensuring their rights.
According to a SOREPA statement, May Day is being observed on May 1 every year to commemorate the courage and unity of labourers who fought against the exploitative system created by the wealthy/capitalist people.
The day also remembers the unity of labourers who successfully launched a movement on May 1, 1886 in Chicago, USA, against exploitative policy of the capitalists who forced working class people to work from early morning till midnight merely for getting profit.
On the occasion, the SOREPA statement issued by publicity and organisation secretary MC Yaiphabi also placed its views on plight of the people particularly labourers who are being suppressed by suppressive regime and wealthy section of the society.
It said that the struggle for sustenance is paramount in life and searching food is the battle for survival in life as those successful in this battle will live with dignity and those unsuccessful will perish.
The same applies to a particular community or nation, SOREPA said and reminded people not to forget that protection of a nation's sovereignty and territory will not be possible as long as major chunks of wealth remains at the hands of few wealthy people.
While stressing the need for bringing unity of farmers and labourers who are in the forefront of crop production, SOREPA said time has come for forming a united body of farmers and labourers which could stand and fight collectively against those, particularly government of India and their supporters, scheming to break apart Manipur.
While appealing to the people to understand the religion-centric divisive tactics being adopted by the government of India in Manipur, the SOREPA said the root cause of the ongoing 'artificial' ethnic conflict in Manipur could be identified and resolved when people are fully conversant with the 'political economy' relating to the fight for sovereignty restoration and food production in its true perspective.
Blaming, shouting and killing among ourselves will never restore our lost sovereignty and this must be understood collectively.
The Indian government's intent to undermine and break apart Manipur had been laid bare by the media and this is well aware among the people and intellectuals now.
However, those supporting India are hurt by the media exposure of India's intent to balkanise Manipur.
Advocating for a united liberation movement while understanding enemy's strategies, the SOREPA said this is the only way farmers, labourers and the people could move forward.
