"Grossing and Immunohistotechnology workshop kicks off at RIMS Imphal

A two-day workshop on "Grossing and Immunohistotechnology", organised by the Department of Pathology, Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal, in collaboration with the National Cancer Grid, began today at Banting Hall, RIMS, Imphal.
As per a release issued by RIMS, the workshop was conducted as part of the Travelling Immunohistochemistry and School of Histotechniques (TISH), 2026 initiative.
The workshop aimed to enhance technical expertise and advance cancer diagnostics through improved histopathological practices.
The inaugural function was attended by dignitaries, including Prof G Sunil Kumar Sharma, Director, RIMS; Prof N Sanjib Singh, Medical Superintendent, RIMS Hospital; Prof L Rajesh Singh, Dean (Academics); Prof Tanuja Shet, Head, Tata Memorial Hospital, Mumbai; and Prof Sushma Khuraijam, Head, Department of Pathology, RIMS.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof Sunil Kumar highlighted the central role of pathology in diagnosis, emphasizing grossing as a critical first step and immunohistochemistry (IHC) as essential for precision diagnosis and targeted therapy.
He added that the workshop reflects RIMS' commitment to global healthcare standards and capacity building.
Insightful talks were delivered by speakers from RIMS Imphal, Tata Memorial Hospital, State Cancer Institute, Guwahati, and Naokon Diagnostics, Imphal.
The programme was attended by 116 participants, including faculty members, resource persons, postgraduate students, and laboratory technicians from both within and outside the State.
Additionally, a three-day Swachhata Student Camp concluded today with various activities, including yoga, meditation, adventure fitness, and team-building exercises.
Talks were held on e-waste management, safe disposal of unused medications, and the "Reduce, Reuse, Recycle" principle.
The event concluded with the distribution of prizes and certificates.
