Imphal, July 10 2025:
In a landmark step towards digitisation, the Directorate of Printing & Stationery has become the first to operate as a paperless department in the state.
This was announced to the media by Printing & Stationery director Ngangbam Roben at the directorate's Yaiskul Police Lane Office, here, on Thursday.
"Our department will make every effort to minimise the use of paper," he declared, while clarifying that going paperless does not mean the complete elimination of paper usage, especially since the department is involved in printing-related activities.

He elaborated that paper will still be used when necessary.
However, the department is committed to avoiding the use of paper wherever it is not absolutely required.
The director further informed that earlier, when there was a need to print gazette notifications, they were issued formally on paper.
However, with the introduction of the e-office system, such notifications are now sent through the official portal.
He also appealed to the public and other departments to submit any printing requests via the department's official email or WhatsApp number.
In cases where paper applications are still received, the department scans them and issues e-receipts instead of paper receipts.
The department officially adopted the paperless system on July 7.To support this transition, the IT Department conducted hands-on training for the staff, enabling them to become proficient with the latest digital tools and technologies.
Roben also stated that with the introduction of the e-office portal, all gazette notifications have been digitised and uploaded to the portal.
The public can access these gazettes by visiting the department's official website: govtpress.nic.in.
Each newly issued gazette is uploaded after being digitally signed, with the time of signing clearly indicated helping prevent claims or confusion regarding delays in the issuance of gazettes.
He further noted that the e-office system has made it easier to monitor all official work of the department, improved communication and reduced operational costs.
"The transition has not only contributed to environmental conservation but also ensured that all office files and documents are securely stored in a digital database, eliminating the risk of loss or damage," he added.
The directorate also requested all other government departments to submit official documents in digital format.
"Plans are underway to launch a mobile app to facilitate easier access to e-gazettes," revealed Roben, and appealed to other departments to follow suit, stating that such a move will promote efficiency, transparency, and accountability.
The press briefing was also attended by Information & Technology assistant director Robert.
