Thoubal, April 10 2026:
The Poiroupat Loukol Farmers' Development Co-Operative Society Ltd has strongly condemned the inhumane bomb attack at Tronglaobi that claimed the lives of a toddler and a five-year-old boy, terming the incident deeply disturbing and unacceptable.
Speaking during an inspection of early crop cultivation at Poiroupat Loukol in Imphal East district, Secretary of the society, Khulem Tomchou, described the incident as unfortunate and disheartening, and demanded that those responsible be given appropriate punishment.
Highlighting the challenges faced by farmers, Tomchou said that incessant rains in 2025 had flooded more than 1,500 lou pari of Kharif crops, causing extensive damage and leaving farmers in distress.
In an effort to recover losses, farmers have taken up early cultivation this season.
He informed that, following a request to the Water Resources Department for release of water through canals, farmers were able to resume cultivation activities.
At present, around 1,300 lou sangam of paddy fields are under early crop cultivation, which he noted could be among the largest such cultivation efforts in the State.
Tomchou further stated that during a recent field inspection conducted about ten days ago, along with officials including a fertiliser officer, farmers were advised to begin fertiliser application.
However, due to the prevailing situation in the State, they have been unable to procure fertilisers from the concerned department.
Expressing concern over the plight of farmers, he appealed to protesters and the public not to obstruct the transportation of fertilisers, stressing that timely access to agricultural inputs is crucial to sustain the ongoing cultivation and ensure food security.
