Imphal, October 09 2012:
Manipuri Students Federation (MSF) has come out with a scathing attack on Education Minister, Moirangthem Okendro over the present situation of government schools in the state in spite of his tall promises of bringing a change in the education system within six months.
Addressing media persons, Md Sirajuddin, President of MSF, said that following the commitment given by the Education Minister of bringing about a complete change in the education system of the state, the government schools of the state have been flooded with teachers; however, the schools are facing drought of students.
The President of MSF was speaking to reporters after having inspected a number of schools in Imphal East district.
He charged the Minister with transferring a huge number of teachers in government schools where there are hardly any student.
This has raised questions over his sincerity towards the welfare of student community.
It seems that the Education Minister is busy collecting money from teachers who wants to get them posted according to their conveniences.
Citing an example where the possibility of the Minister receiving huge amount of money for posting teachers to their place of convenience, the President of MSF pointed out that altogether 16 teachers have been posted in Khurai Heikrumakhong Junior High School where there are only eight (8) students at present.
Another six (6) teachers have been posted in Top Makha Primary School, on the pretext that there are 41 students, but in reality there are no students in the said school.
He also stated that instead of wasting public money in paying the salary of teachers in schools where there are no student, it would be much better if the Education Minister sanctions the amount for helping poor students to get educated in private schools.
This will in fact bring about the required change in the education system of the state.
The volunteers of MSF have also reportedly inspected the condition of Top Bangoon Primary Madrassa, Top Mayai Leikai Primary School, Tharo Primary School, Khurai Heikru Makhong Junior High School and Khomidok Heikrumakhong Primary School.
