ROs issue notifications; observers reach Imphal

Imphal, October 28 2015:
Returning Officers (RO) for the bye-elections to Thongju and Thangmeiband Assembly Constituencies has issued notifications on Wednesday while observers reached Imphal in connection with the scheduled elections.
RO of Thongju A/C, DC Imphal East M Joy and RO of Thangmeiband A/C, DC Imphal West Jeffery issued the election notifications.
As per the notifications, the last date for filling of nomination is November 4 and scrutiny of the nomination is November 5.Last date for withdrawal of candidature is November 7 while counting of vote will take place on November 24.All the activities of the election will be completed within November 26 .
A total of 25,114 voters (13,687 female and 12,570 male) will exercise their franchise in Thangmeiband constituency in the upcoming bye-poll, while in Thongju A/C, a total of 28,214 voters (14,564 female and 13,650 male) are eligible to cast their votes.
Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) will be used by the 53,328 voters in the by-poll to be held in the two constituencies.
It may be mentioned that the seats of Thangmeiband and Thongju A/Cs have been left vacant after the Manipur Speaker's tribunal disqualified sitting MLAs Thongam Biswajit Singh of Thongju and Khumukcham Joykishan of Thangmeiband under the anti-defection law on May 28 last.
Meanwhile, observers have reached Imphal on Wednesday to look after the activities being taken up by the office of Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Manipur including the election campaigns in connection with the November 21 bye-elections.
The observers also met with the officials of CEO, Manipur.
The team will look after the affairs of the election process and will send reports to the Election Commission of India.
