Imphal, October 28 2015:
Despite the 12 refills in a year assurance, it is likely that the Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) will be able to provide only about six LPG refills to DBTL consumers of the State this year.
Meanwhile, a DBTL consumer of Imphal East confided to The Sangai Express that he has got only three subsidised LPG refills so far for this year.
The consumer said he got a LPG refill on January 23 after he booked it on September 19 last year.
He made another booking on February 2 and got a subsidised LPG refill on April 27 .
He got the third LPG refill on July 1, the consumer said.
He made another booking on July 8 and he is still to get the subsidised LPG refill.
Since the three refills were not sufficient for his family use, the consumer bought two LPG refills from the black market.
An official of Divisional Retail Sales Office of IOC, Imphal expressed confidence that six subsidised LPG refills will be provided to DBTL consumers this year.
There are 61 LPG distributors in Manipur.
Of these there are four in Bishnupur district, five in Chandel, six in Churachandpur, ten in Imphal East, seven in Senapati, three in Tamenglong, five in Thoubal, five in Ukhrul, and ten in Imphal West.
These 61 distributors are catering to 3,21,939 active consumers.
Among these, 2,56,970 are availing subsidy as DBTL consumers.
The present LPG supply position in the State is far below the daily LPG need.
The problem of LPG supply shortage can be solved if LPG supply is increased to 7650 cylinders or 25 truck loads or 108.025 metric tons daily.
The IOC is inviting tenders from transporters for transhipping LPG.
Once the tender, which is in process, is completed, the supply of LPG will be increased by 50 percent.
Prolonged and frequent economic blockade along the highways is another problem, the IOC official said.
