Photos considered evidence in any probe: Gaikhangam

Manipur Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam on Wednesday said Photography is a powerful medium and has become an indispensable aspect in Journalism.
The Deputy Chief Minister was speaking at the inaugural function of a Photography Contest cum Exhibition and 3 Day Photography Workshop organized by Directorate of Information and Public Relations, Government of Manipur commenced which commenced on Wednesday at DIPR Complex, Moirangkhom, Imphal.
Gaikhangam who was the Chief Guest of the function said that organizing photography contest and workshop at this time is appropriate and he is hopeful that it would provide a platform to the photographers of the State to excel in the field and also to increase their skill and techniques.

He further said much was needed to be done so as to encourage Photo Journalism with the objectives of infusing better skills and newer techniques.
The inaugural function was also attended by Parliamentary Secretary (IPR) K Meghachandra Singh as Guest of Honour and Principal Secretary (IPR) Letkhogin Haokip, IAS as President respectively.
K Meghachandra Singh informed that this is the first time that DIPR could organize such a big Photo contest cum exhibition.
He also expressed his desire to urge the Government to allocate necessary fund in the budget for organizing such events every year.
Principal Secretary (IPR) Letkhogin Haokip said that photographers of the State should take the opportunity to expose their photos in this exhibition.
DIPR Director Shri Somorjit Salam in his key note address said that the objective of organizing the biggest photography contest cum exhibition and workshop is to enhance technical knowledge and skills of those enthusiastic photographers of the State based on Photo Journalism.
During the 3 Day Photography Workshop, 6 experts will exhibit their works and explain the skills and methods of exploring photography as a medium of expression.
More than 500 photos were submitted by about 100 competitors/applicants for the Photo contest in four categories/themes; (i) Unity in Diversity (Culture, Religion & People of Manipur) (ii) Manipur Marches Ahead (iii) Environment, Ecology & Ecotourism of Manipur and (iv) Candids from the Streets of Manipur.
The photography exhibition and workshop will conclude on November 1 which is being observed as Information and Public Relations (IPR) Day and the results of the photo contest will also be declared on the same day at the Exhibition venue.
Deputy Director General, Film Division, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India Joshy Joseph was the special Guest of the occasion.
