Workshop on "Advances in Computer Science & Applications" kicks off

A two-day workshop cum research colloquium on "Advances in Computer Science and Applications" commenced today at the VC's Court Hall, Manipur University, Imphal.
The event a prelude to the India AI Impact Summit 2026, was organised by the Computer Science Department Manipur .University (MU), on the theme, "Applications of AI in Multidisciplinary Approach".
The inaugural function was graced by dignitaries, including Prof N Lokednra, Vice Chancellor, MU; Prof Sumitra Phanjoubam, Dean, School of Mathematical & Physical Sciences; Prof Ch Ibohal Meitei, Director, Research & Development Cell; Prof M Premjit, Registrar; and Dr Kh Robindro.

In his address, Prof N Lokendra cautioned that if Artificial Intelligence (AI) is not handled carefully by humans, it could lead to global problems and issues.
He referenced a talk by historian and philosopher Prof Yuval Noah Harari of the University of Jerusalem, noting that AI algorithms are endless; once created, many more algorithms can emerge automatically.
He highlighted that while scientific inventions and technological innovations have limits, AI does not, suggesting AI could surpass human thinking speed.
The VC stressed that the Government of India is organising the India AI Impact Summit next month based on these concerns.
Today's workshop aims to gather vibrant ideas and actionable recommendations for the summit, he added.
Experts from IIIT Manipur, IIT Guwahati, and NIT Manipur will speak during the two-day programme, which also includes a panel discussion.
