R-Day ends with Beating Retreat ceremony

A folk dance competition and the ceremonial Beating the Retreat brought the curtains down on the 76th Republic Day celebrations held at the First Battalion Manipur Rifles Parade Ground on Monday afternoon.
The event was attended by Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla, who distributed prizes for various categories of competitions held during the celebrations.
The ceremony was also attended by chief minister N Biren Singh, ministers, MLAs, top civil and police officials.
The Governor presented cash prizes to winners of the folk dance competition held earlier in the clay.
The Cultural Dance Troupe from Noney district secured the first position and received a cash prize of Rs 1 lakh.

Performing Enhancement Arts and Cultural Evolution from Thoubal district clinched the second position with a cash prize of Rs 75,000, while Cultural Dance Troupe from Tamenglong district won the third position, receiving Rs 50,000.In the march-past competition, the Uniform Contingents of BSF and the Un-Armed Combat (UAC) team jointly bagged the first position whereas the Sikh Regiment and Assam Rifles contingents were awarded second and third position respectively.
In the school contingent category, the 14th NCC Senior Boys & Girls and 65th Girls NCC Contingent shared the first position.
NCC Senior Air Wing and Sainik School contingent secured the second and third position respectively.
For college contingents, DM College of Arts (Girls) and Manipur College shared the first position, followed by National Sports University and Imphal College in the second and third position respectively.
The band party category saw AR and CRPF securing the first position, while 2MR & 2IRB and Sainik School Band finished second and third respectively.
In the cultural dance category, Star Musical Centre, Khurai secured the first position, followed by Performing Enhancement Art & Cultural Evolution in second, and Linda Folk & Classical Academy in third.
For tableaux presentations, Directorate of Handlooms & Textiles, clinched the first place, while Directorate of Higher Education, and Loktak Development Authority, secured second and third place respectively.
In gate construction, Forest Department secured the first position, followed by Directorate of Sericulture in second and Tourism Department in third.
Special prizes were also distributed to parade commander SP (Sports) L Sarita Devi, guard of honour 1MR commandant Jay Barange, IPR director, Health Services director, Fire Service director, chief engineer (PWD), chief engineer (PHED), chief engineer (Water Resources Department), managing director (MSPDCL).

The Governor also presented red blankets, as a mark of respect, to 13 village chiefs from six districts, including Chandel, Tamenglong, Ukhrul, Kamjong, Kangpokpi, and Senapati.
The ceremony marked a fitting conclusion to the 76th Republic Day celebrations in Manipur, showcasing the rich cultural heritage and unity of the state.
