NIT Manipur empowers PhD scholars with "Smart Research" workshop

The National Institute of Technology (NIT) Manipur organised a comprehensive academic workshop titled "Smart Research Starts Here: A Hands-on Exploration of Key Academic Platforms" today at its campus in Imphal.
The programme, an initiative of the NDLI Club, NIT Manipur, was specifically designed for 55 PhD scholars to strengthen their research competencies and promote ethical academic practices.
The workshop aimed to equip participants with practical skills in literature discovery, accessing scholarly databases, and effectively utilizing national research resources.
The event was graced by dignitaries, including DVLN Somayajulu, Director, NIT Manipur; Kh Tomba Singh, Registrar; and Kh Manglem Singh, chairman, Library Purchase Committee.
Speaking on the occasion, DVLN Somayajulu highlighted the importance of effectively using modem academic platforms, noting that digital access has transformed the research landscape, enabling scholars to explore vast repositories of knowledge with greater efficiency and depth.
Kh Tomba echoed similar views, contrasting the current era of accessible data with earlier times when the library was the sole source of information.
Kh Manglem stressed the-continued importance of the library as a knowledge hub and urged scholars to conduct research in a meaningful, systematic, and ethical manner.
The workshop was coordinated by Dr N Vidyavati Devi, Assistant Librarian, Central Library.
Technical sessions were conducted by Priya Sharma and Rishabh Sharma, Library and Information Assistants.
Participants received guided hands-on training on essential academic and research platforms, including the National Digital Library of India, the One Nation One Subscription (ONOS) initiative resources, Shodhganga- the national repository of Indian theses and dissertations, and Tumitin tools for plagiarism detection & academic integrity.
