Campaign against SUPs continues

With the launch of the ban on Single Use Plastics (SUPs) from April 15 and in accordance with the instruction given by the directorate of rural development and panchayati raj, the administrative committee of Langjing gram panchayat carried out an awareness camp in the surrounding areas of the GP on Saturday.
A team consisting of the administrative committee chairman and members, Western Star Club (WSC), and students of Langjing High School informed the locals in the area to stop using SUPs.
Langjing GP nodal officer and secretary N Bidyalakshmi Devi informed about the penalties involved and the types of banned SUPs such as those under 120, 60 (non-woven plastic bags, ear bud sticks, plastic flags, candy and ice-cream sticks, thermocol), and 100 (plastic cups, plates, cutlery, straws, trays, etc.) microns.

On the other hand, a one-day campus cleanup programme was jointly organised by the Eco Club, NSS Unit, NCC, and IQAC of Maharaja Bodhachandra College and DoECC at the premises of the college on Saturday.
In a press release, the NSS Unit informed that the programme was organised to make the college a plastic-free zone.
During the programme, Environmental Science associate professor Dr L Usharani and head of Geography Department associate professor Dr N Kishorchand explained to the students the importance of having the college become a plastic-free zone.
As part of the programme, a rally was taken out from the college till Konung Mamang Keithek.
Later, a clean-up drive of the plastics littered inside the campus was carried out, the release added.
