Imphal, February 07 2024:
Reacting to a news report published in this daily regarding the allegations levelled by NSCN-IM that Assam Rifles committed excesses against one DK Korungthang on January 30, PRO Inspector General Assam Rifles (South) has categorically refuted the charges made by the NSCN-IM.
In a release, Public Relations Officer (PRO) IGAR (S) clarified that Korungthang's vehicle was not confiscated by the security forces as claimed by the Naga outfit.
Rather, the vehicle, a Maruti Gypsy, was left untouched, and all belongings, including cash inside it not disturbed.
Citing credible information, the PRO said Korungthang was questioned by the security forces and the vehicle and cash were retrieved from the initial site by the security forces and promptly deposited with the local police as evidence.
The PRO continued that the security forces remain committed to ensuring the safety and security of the region.
Mention may be made that Marine Frontal Organisations (MFO), Chandel had also levelled the same charges against the Assam Rifles which the PRO dismissed as unfounded.
"We understand the concerns raised by the MFO, and we assure the public that the security forces conducted the operation with utmost professionalism, adhering to the law and respecting individual rights," the PRO had conveyed.
