Kuki Inpi Manipur (KIM), along with its federating units and affiliated organisations, has unanimously resolved that no Kuki-Zo MLAs shall participate in any manner in the formation of a new popular government in the state.
According to a statement of KIM, the resolution was adopted during a joint meeting held on Friday at the conference hall of KIM secretariat in Bijang, Churachandpur.
The meeting included representatives of Kuki Students' Organisation - General Headquarters (KSO-GHQ), KukiKhanglai-Lawmpi-General Headquarters (KKL-GHQ), Kuki Christian Leaders' Forum (KCLF), Kuki Women's Union-General Headquarters (KWU-GHQ), Kuki Women Organisation for Human Rights-Gen-eral Headquarters (KWOHR-GHQ), Kuki Chiefs' Association-Manipur (KCA-M), all district units of Kuki Inpi and heads of departments.
Following due deliberation, the meeting also resolved that under no circumstances shall the Kuki-Zo people compromise their ancestral land, culture, identity, and political, social and economic rights.
KIM said that the resolution reflects the collective political will and aspiration of the Kuki-Zo people and is binding upon all Kuki-Zo representatives and community organisations.
It also advised all concerned to adhere strictly to the resolution in letter and spirit.
Mention may be made that amid mounting pressure to restore a popular government before the six-month period of President's Rule expires, two Naga MLAs from the Naga People's Front (NPF), Awangbow Newmai and Leishiyo Keishing, travelled to Moreh on June 27 morning and held a lengthy discussion with Kuki MLA Letpao Haokip over a meal.
Though what transpired during the talks remains undisclosed, the meeting is believed to have focused on efforts to break the political deadlock and pave the way for government formation.
It was reported that the meeting was a follow-up to a recent meeting in New Delhi where Union Home minister Amit Shah is believed to have asked the NPF legislators to mediate between the Kuki and Meetei camps.
The Moreh discussion reportedly took place at Letpao Haokip's home village, opposite Chikim village along the Imphal-Moreh road.
Later that night, after returning from Moreh, the two NPF MLAs met Bishnupur MLA Govindas Konthoujam at his residence.
The meeting was attended by former CM N.Biren Singh and several other MLAs.
On June 29, over 22 Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) legislators, including former chief minister Nongthombam Biren, attended a crucial meeting at the party's state office, Thambal Sanglen, in Imphal.
The meeting, convened by BJP state president A Sharda Devi, aimed to review the current political scenario, build internal cohesion among the party's legislators, and take forward the proposal for government formation in the state which has been under President's Rule since February 13, 2025, due to the continuing ethnic unrest and breakdown of law and order.
Sharda told media that the discussion was organised following her interactions with national party leaders in Delhi regarding the state's political situation.
She reiterated that BJP was united in its commitment to form a popular, democratically elected government in Manipur and stressed that public support was crucial to this effort.
"There has been no negative response from the Centre so far.
We have already conveyed to our leadership that the people of Manipur want a popular government.
This meeting served to strengthen our collective resolve and respond to that demand," Sharda said, adding that reports were also shared about incidents such as the recent controversy in Gwaltabi, where the name of the state was removed from a government bus.
Former CM N Biren echoed the sentiment, stating that the MLAs are aligned with public aspirations and that efforts are underway to bring back democratic governance.
"There is a clear public demand for restoring an elected government.
We have submitted a proposal to the central leadership.
A conducive environment has been created among the BJP legislators and we hope that a government may be formed at the earliest," he said.
