Manipur to observe Martyrs' Day, traffic diversions in place

Imphal, January 28 2026:
The Government of Manipur will observe Martyrs' Day on January 30, 2026, commemorating the death anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, the Father of the Nation.
As per a release issued by the Commissioner (Home), Government of Manipur, the observation is scheduled to take place from 10:10 am - 11:04 am.
The event will be held at Gandhi Memorial Hall, with the Governor as the chief guest.
The programme includes the singing of three specific bhajans from 10:10 am to 10:51 am - SUMIRAN KARLE MERE MANA, VAISHNAV JANA TO TENE, and RAGHUPATI RAGHAV RAJA RAM .
A two-minute silence will be observed, signaled by sirens.
The warning siren will sound from 10:59 am to 11:00 am, and the closing siren from 11:02 am to 11:03 am .
During this period, all vehicles on highways and campus areas are requested to come to a standstill.
All citizens are urged to observe the two minutes of silence and stand wherever they are when the signal is sounded.
All Government servants working within the Imphal Municipal area, including Lamphelpat, have been requested to be present at the GM Hall by 10 am on January 30, 2026, until the function concludes.
Traffic Diversions
To ensure public safety and smooth proceedings of the Martyrs' Day observance, the Traffic Control Police Wing (TCPW), Manipur has issued a detailed plan for traffic diversions, effective from 9 am until the function concludes.
Vehicles from Keishampat heading towards the Western gate of Kangla will be diverted at Nityapat Chuthek and directed towards the GPO/Sanjenthong bridge.
Traffic originating from North AOC with the intent of reaching the LIC crossing will be rerouted towards Khuyathong.
Vehicles from MG Avenue heading towards the Western Gate of Kangla must divert at the Old Power House towards the LIC Crossing.
Traffic from the Sanjenthong Bridge/GPO area heading towards the Western Gate of Kangla will be diverted at Nityapat Chuthek and instructed to proceed towards Keishampat.
All vehicles coming towards the Western Gate of Kangla from the Uripok side will be diverted towards Nityapat Chuthek.
The TCPW Manipur has advised the public to take note of these regulations and plan their movements accordingly to avoid inconvenience during the observation period.
