Imphal, February 23 2026:
The Manipur Fire Service organised a 1-Day Fire & Life Safety Training Programme for its 7th batch at the Manipur Fire Service Headquarters in Imphal today.
Teaching and non-teaching staff selected from schools in Imphal West and Imphal East districts are taking part in the 7th batch of training.
The event was graced by dignitaries, including L Nabachandra, Director, Manipur Fire Service; Angom Heera, Joint Secretary (Home), Manipur; and Yumnam Nonglen Meitei, Assistant Director, Education (S), Manipur.
Speaking on the occasion, L Nabachandra, stated that all schools in Manipur should install fire safety plants to minimize loss of life and property during fire incidents.
He emphasized the importance of readiness and prevention.
He recalled past fatal fire incidents in schools across India, including a major incident in Haryana where over 500 people died and 300 were injured, and another in Kerala where 93 primary school children lost their lives.
Nabachandra stressed that every school in Manipur must have a fire safety plan and equipment like fire extinguishers.
He concluded that everyone needs to know how to use a fire extinguisher, noting that a small amount of water at the start can prevent a large fire.
The training included instructions on how to use fire extinguishers, provide first a'id to burn victims, apply bandages, and perform rescue operations, such as bringing people down from the top of a burning building using a rope.
