Imphal, November 20 2024:
Taragi Cheisu has demanded the central and state governments to order judicial inquiry into the abduction and subsequent brutal killing of three women and three children from Jakuradhor, Borobekra sub-division in Jiribam, by Kuki militants.
In a press meet held at Taragi Cheisu" s office in Porompat on Wednesday, chairman Khaidem Mani aptly gave the name, 'Jakuradhor Massacre', to signify the cowardly and beastly act committed by the Kuki militants on innocent women and children.
The massacre is a crime against humanity, he asserted, and strongly condemned the same, while also condemning the killings of a young housewife at Saiton, Bishnupur district and a Hmar woman in Jiribam district.
Stating that Taragi Cheisu will never accept any attack on civilians regardless of the community they belong to, Mani said that the brutal killing of women and children including an eight-month old is an act of terrorism.
Thus, the government should constitute an independent judicial commission at the earliest to probe the massacre and declare those who committed the terrorist acts as unlawful organisations.
Since three of the victims were children, a case should be taken up under the POCSO Act, he stressed, while urging both the National Women Commission (NCW) and Child Commission to conduct on-spot investigations.
Mani also demanded repeal of the Armed Forces' Special Powers Act (AFSPA), 1958 from the state.
The re-imposition of the draconian law, which has been repeatedly criticised by UNHRC, in areas under six police stations of the state after previously withdrawing the same from 19 police stations, is unacceptable.
The Act, which has to do with terrorism and insurgency, should be repealed from valley police stations in areas of Imphal East, Imphal West, Bishnupur and Moirang, where such security concerns do not exists.
Stating that the continued silence of the Prime Minister even when women and children are held hostages and brutally killed, as extremely unfortunate; Mani said that the central government is unable to curb the violence which has been raging for more than 19 months, and restore peace and normalcy to the state.
As such, the central government's claim of India being the global peacemaker 'Vishwa Guru' holds no merit, he remarked and urged for strict punishment of the Kuki militants involved in the Jakuradhor Massacre.
