VKSA campaign ends, 70K-plus farmers covered

The Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan (VSKA) campaign concluded on Thursday with the visit of minister of agriculture and farmers' welfare Shivraj Singh Chouhan to Gujarat accompanied by Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) director general & secretary (DARE) Dr ML Jat.
As per a release by ICAR-Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Imphal West, a Manipur delegation led by state nodal officer Dr Ch Basudha Devi attending the valedictory programme.
Over the course of the 15 days, various programmes were organised by KVKs in different districts.
The outreach covered over 750 villages, engaging more than 70,000 farmers in Manipur, providing them with valuable insights into progressive agricultural practices and technologies which will help farmers across the state face challenges and adopt innovative agricultural methods for a prosperous future.

The VKSA campaign initiated by KVK, Chandel covered 108 villages and 4000 farmers in Chandel and Tengnoupal districts, with subject experts elaborating on modern agricultural practices for Kharif crops, soil & water conservation, climate resilient technologies, natural farming, Integrated Farming System, vermi-composting, mushroom cultivation, animal health management and on different government schemes.
Similarly, KVK, Ukhrul organised closing function for the VKSA campaign, which benefitted more than 10,674 farmers in Ukhrul district, with KVK, Ukhrul senior scientist Dr Soibam Khogen Singh, KVK, Tamenglong senior scientist Dr H Lembisana Devi and experts from ICAR Manipur Centre, informing the farmers on various scientific agricultural practices as well as central and state-sponsored schemes focused on farmer welfare and rural development.
As a part of the event, farming inputs such as vegetable seeds, insect traps, knapsack sprayers and seasonal farming calendars were distributed to farmers.
The campaign was executed by three outreach teams of KVK Ukhrul, each engaging with over 300 farmers across different locations, and also served as a platform for identifying ground-level issues that will inform future research and extension strategies, said a release.
On the other hand, teams of KVK, Thoubal visited nine village namely, Kangthokchao, Kangyambem, Heirok part-1, Heirok Pt-2, Chingdompok, Kangdabi, Shikhong, Bengi and Sora covering 1104 farmers, on the 10th day of the VKSA campaign.
Under the VSKA, the Thoubal KVK organised a series of programmes and activities designed to disseminate advanced agricultural practices, promote sustainable farming, introduce innovative technologies to the local farming community, awareness about Various government schemes, improved crop varieties and Kharif crop protection, capacity building for integrated pest management, soil health management, organic farming, and post-harvest management, promotion of farmer producer organisations (FPOs), direct interaction with farmers for collecting critical challenges and provide on-the-spot solutions and Protection of Plant Varieties and Farmers' Rights Authority (PPVFRA) for registration of indigenous varieties by the farmer.
