MAYOL march ends with public meet

Imphal, January 09 2024: The long march for national regeneration organised by Manipur Youth League (MAYOL), which set off on December 20, 2023 and covered several areas, culminated Tuesday with a public meet at Manipur University campus.

The public meet chaired by political analyst Leihaothabam Sharat also adopted and announced several decisions which are to be followed and abided by the people.

Among the decisions announced at the meet were that the Meeteis being the largest community in Manipur shall bring together all other communities under one roof and administer the land collectively.

Another decision was that the Meeteis must take big role towards maintaining communal harmony and bringing inclusive development in the state apart from safeguarding the territorial integrity of Manipur.

Another decision announced at the end of the public meet wras that politics should be part and parcel of the lives of the people and right politics should be played to save every community and make Manipur a strong and developed state.

Everyone should be dutiful citizens and elect qualified and responsible leaders in elections by changing wrong election practices and not to trade voting rights for money, the decision said.

Other decisions announced at the end of the public meet include making efforts to increase population to avert demographic imbalance, prevent entry of illegal immigrants, encourage marriage among indigenous communities, lay foundation of the fractured economy collectively and increase production so that the existing dependent economy syndrome could be brought to an end and develop economic nationalism.

Another decision announced at the end of the public meet was laying afresh the foundation of degrading morality of the society and launching a moral regeneration campaign to bring back discipline, truthfulness, unity and development in the society.

One decision announced at the meet was to launch a movement to save emerging youth from illicit drugs.

Prevention of poppy plantation, illicit drug manufacture and sale and use of contraband drugs will be part of the movement as also preventing attempt to convert Manipur as second Golden Triangle.

Among the decisions announced at the meet also includes keeping strict eye on preventing environmental degradation, take up steps to prevent deforestation and to save water bodies by preventing pollution.

Several academicians and intellectuals took part the public meet and shared their thoughts and opinions on making Manipuri society strong, united and developed.

Retired IAS RK Nimai, socio-political commentator Ch Bijoy, COCOMI coordinator Jeetendra Ningomba, IMPACT TV ed itor Rupachandra Yumnam.

Naharolgee Thoudang editor Khoirom Loyalakpa, assistant professor Shrima Ningombam of Nambol L Sanoi College, former dean of MU human and environmental science professor W Nabakumar, former editor of Freedom daily RK Ranendrajit and former principal of DM College of Arts Dr Chungkham Sheelaramani were resource persons of the public meet.
