He said that the conference aims to study conflict situations in the region, including Northeast India, and create an academic platform for peace-building initiatives.
Resolutions adopted will be submitted to the Government of India and the Manipur Government, and a proposal to open a Centre for Peace and Conflict Management in Manipur will be recommended, he added.
Prof Sukhdeva Hanjabam noted that universities, as neutral bodies, play a more effective role than Governments in conflict resolution.
He stressed the need for greater research and documentation on Manipur's conflict situation, noting that few courses on peace-building exist in India.
