11 Mongshangei Home residents pledge body donation

Altogether 11 residents of Mong shangei Old Age Home have made formal registration to donate their bodies to Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS), in a function held at the home on Tuesday.
The 11 residents put their signatures pledging donation of their bodies after death to aid medical students of the institute further their study and research.
Speaking on the occasion, JNIMS director Dr L Deven Singh, remarked that the function, though held solemnly, is unique and epochal, as donating organs is a rare practice in the state.
He also expressed gratitude to the donors for their commitment to humanity and their desire to help the JNIMS medical students.
Dr Deven noted the logistical challenges involved in transporting bodies from other regions to Imphal and hailed residents of the Mongshangei facility for their noble gestures and decision to contribute to advancement of medical science and education.
The director also assured the Home residents medical support from JNIMS and announced plans to extend physiotherapy services by providing necessary equipment.
He also urged everyone to offer support to the elderly citizens in old age homes.
Presided over by All Manipur Senior Citizens' Welfare Association president L Kunjabihari, the function was also attended by JNIMS Anatomy Department head Prof Kaine Pfose as guest of honour.
