Imphal, August 26 2023:
Maintaining that police have registered cases against many people who have nothing to do with the incident of parading two women naked and its viral video, the Federation of Civil Societies Organisation (FOCS) has demanded withdrawal of FIRs registered against innocent people.
Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club here today, FOCS president Th Manihar urged the Government and the Home Department to investigate into how the two Kuki women were rounded up.
There are reports that the two Kuki women were chased and captured by a mob as they came out from B Phainom village along with some Kuki armed with sophisticated weapons to burn Meitei houses, Manihar said.
They were not captured from the road without any reason, he said.
Just before the incident of parading the two women naked, heavily armed Kukis opened indiscriminate fire, burnt down Meitei houses at Torbung, Churachandpur and Moreh, and raped many Meitei women, he said.
A Meitei woman who was gangraped by Kukis has already filed an FIR at police station, he said.
Manihar then decried that no concrete action has been initiated till date against the many inhuman and brutal crimes committed by Kukis.
But the whole country including the Prime Minister raised an uproar when the two women were paraded naked by some people who were deeply hurt and infuriated by the Kuki aggression, he said.
Moreover, FIRs have been registered against many Meitei people who have nothing to do with the particular incident, he continued.
The FOCS president also expressed strong disapproval and resentment against the arrest and attempts to arrest many people who have nothing to do with the particular incident and not seen in its viral video.
Appealing to the CBI to investigate the case impartially, Manihar demanded withdrawal of all the FIRs registered against innocent people.
Khundongbam Padma of Sikhong Bazar and Ningombam Sunita of Yairipok Pechi said that their sons namely Kh Arun and N Tomba have been arrested by police in connection with the viral video.
They asserted that their sons were not involved in the particular incident and as such, they are not seen in the viral video.
The two mothers urged the Government to investigate the case properly and release all innocent people including their sons.
Yairipok Nongbrang Thumkhong Lairembi Youth Club general secretary N Boboy said that one Nameirakpam Kiran of their locality has been arrested by police just for receiving the viral video.
Demanding unconditional release of Kiran at the earliest, Boboy said that they would launch intense agitation if the Government refused to pay heed to their demand.
