Jiribam, August 26 2023:
LEECHING, a co-ordinating committee of Meitei community based in Jiribam district has decried the alleged harassment of Meitei commuters along National Highway-37 .
LEECHING, in a statement said that Kukis have been monitoring movements of Meiteis along the lifeline.
They have been screening Meiteis and preventing any movement thereby causing many inconveniences, it said.
Seeking attention towards the issue, LEECHING urged the State Government to restore peace at the earliest and help smooth passage of Meiteis along the highway.
LEECHING also went on to denounce the "portrayal" of Jiribam as Kuki dominated district and as an unsafe for a Meitei Civil officer in a representation submitted to the Deputy Secretary by now suspended IAS Officer, Ng Roben when he was directed to join as DC of Jiribam district.
The apex body of Meiteis in the district condemns such a misleading and disheartening statement from a Civil officer like him, it said.
It was unexpected from an IAS officer and a Meitei intellectual to lack history of Jiribam and Manipur, it added.
