Aid continues to pour in for displaced people

In continuation of extending philanthropic activities to displaced people who are taking refuge at various relief camps across the State in the wake of the outbreak of communal strife, many continue to provide relief materials to these camps.
In a collective effort, the Union of Associations of Manipur Writers and Manipuri Meetei Association Bangalore extended relief materials including sanitary pads, detergents, shampoo etc to shelter camps opened at Rice Research Station, Khangabok and Lamding Higher Secondary School in Thoubal district.

The organizations also provided relief items to relief camps opened at Kalyan Ashram and Indoor Stadium in Kakching district.
Renowned writers namely Vice-presidents of Union of Associations of Manipur Writers, Saratchand Thiyam and Sh Prahalad Sharma, General Secretary Rakesh Naorem; Executive members Kshetrimayum Subadani and Dr Uma Mayengbam were present at the occasion along with Manipuri Meetei Association Bangalore Advisor Soibam Shushil.
In connection with today's drive, the representatives of the Union of Associations of Manipur Writers and Manipuri Meetei Association Bangalore said that the initiative has been carried out by the writers' community and Manipuri diaspora of Bangalore to provide aid to the affected people of the communal conflict to help them overcome this tough time.
'We need to make collective efforts to encourage these people to be optimistic and help them lead a normal life by extending all possible help', they maintained.
They further assured that both the organizations will continue to provide essential materials to other relief camps as well.
It is worth noting that many people residing in different States across the country have also been sending in aid for the displaced people in the form of relief materials and monetary assistance.
Pawanmani from Nagpur; Aheibam Thabungba Singha from Badarpur, Karimganj; Kiran Kumar and Hrishikesh Singha from Silchar and Kangbam Ibochou Singha from Hingla, Karimganj provided monetary assistance for the inmates of relief camps of Indoor Stadium Kakching; Keirak Sanatombi High School and at the relief camp of 3 Khurai Veterinary and Animal Husbandry complex.
Meanwhile, Moirang Assembly Constituency MLA Thongam Shanti distributed edible items to around 200 people yesterday who fled their homes and are currently taking shelter at their friends' and relatives' place at Tronglaobi.
Speaking at the distribution programme held at Ibudhou Nongpok Ningthou Apanba Apanbi Laibung, Tronglaobi Awang Leikai, the MLA stated that he has been providing all possible assistance to these displaced people who are taking refuge at their near and dear ones place under the aegis of the State Government.
He further stated that a similar distribution programme will be conducted after 15 days again and assured that all forms of aid will be extended to these people at Tronglaobi though they cannot be accommodated to the relief camps opened in Moirang AC at present.
Four kilograms of rice were provided to every individual along with pulses, edible oils, salt etc in the distribution programme which was organised by MLA Office Moirang.
