Moirang/Imphal, August 26 2023:
A 30-year old man was shot dead by some unidentified persons at Khuga Wangma, Bishnupur district under Kumbi police station at around 2.15 am today.
The deceased has been identified as Khangembam Sanjoy s/o Khangembam Manglemba of Kumbi Municipal Council Ward No 2, Setupur Maning Leikai.
A bullet which struck Sanjoy on the neck exited through the back side of his head.
Another bullet hit him on the back.
The corpse has been deposited at RIMS mortuary.
Meanwhile the proscribed RPF has claimed its hand in killing Khangembam Sanjoy Singh s/o Kh Manglemba Singh of Kumbi Setupur, Ward No 2, Bishnupur district.
According to a statement issued by the outfit's Assistant Secretary, Publicity Bangkim, Sanjoy was awarded capital punishment for raping a girl on September 12, 2022 .
Many people who are guilty of outraging the modesty of women have been living freely in the society as if they are innocent even though they should be arrested and punished according to law after proper trial, it said.
But the law is often manipulated by the rich, powerful, influential and well-connected people.
As a result, several detestable and grave crimes like murder, rape and drug trafficking have been rising in the society, the outfit said.
Many criminals involved in such crimes have been let off while many others have been living freely after being released on bail, it said.
A number of individuals who were apprehended together with considerable quantities of drugs have not been awarded due punishment.
As they have been let off as if they are innocent, they just go back to the old profession of drug trafficking, this time in much larger volumes.
As a result, the number of drug addicts has been rising in the society.
With huge money earned from drug trafficking, some of these people ultimately joined electoral politics, only to push the State into a grave crisis as seen today, the outfit remarked.
The failure of the law to punish criminals is one major factor for the rise of mob lynching incidents, it added.
