Imphal, August 26 2023:
To show solidarity with and encourage women who have been displaced by the present crisis, womenfolk took out a candle light vigil at Kangla today.
A large number of people, especially women including those who have been displaced took part in the peaceful demonstration that called for peace and tranquillity.
Women, displaced from Churachandpur, Moreh, Sugnu and other places, took part in the demonstration organised jointly by the Eta North East Women's Network and Meitei Alliance for Harmony in Manipur (MAHM) .

The womenfolk held placards calling for peace and an end to all violence in Manipur.
Placards at the demonstration read "Save Manipur; No More Bloodshed; Manipur Against Infiltrators, Not Against Religion; Condemn the Justification of Violence" .
On the sideline of the demonstration, founder and chairperson of Eta North East Women's Network, Sofia Rajkumari said the peaceful demonstration was organised to encourage and show solidarity with all women who have been displaced and affected by the present conflict.
While the present crisis has affected all, those who suffer more are the women and children.
There are thousands of women and children staying at different relief camps opened across the valley districts.
Today's demonstration was organised to show that they are alone, and that people are with them, said Sofia.
Sanatombi, a displaced woman from Moreh, said the Meiteis have become refugees in their own land.
"We have become refugees in our own land.
The present crisis has destroyed all our lives, our way of life and our future," she said.
Temporary houses have been built by the Government for the displaced people, but people can't stay there forever.
The displaced want to go back to their original place and start fresh again.
It is the Government's duty to make this possible, she said.
Nganthoibi, mother of a new born baby said their family fled Churachandpur with only the clothes they were wearing at the time.
"The Government providing temporary shelter is good but what about our livelihood ? We have been reduced to physical objects that can be moved from one place to the other.
We want our old lives back.
Instead of giving temporary shelters, please allow us to return to Churachandpur and live there peacefully and normally," she said.
Debika, a young student from Sugnu, said the battle has only begun for the displaced people.
People, nowadays, see that the crisis has subsided.
However, this is the beginning.
The battle and the hardship will be over only when the displaced people are allowed to return to their original home and given their lives back, she said with a faint hope.
"We are three children, all taken care of by our mother alone.
Our house and all our properties have been burnt to cinders.
This is the beginning for us, our hardship, and the battle," Debika said.
