Imphal, April 27 2025:
Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) convenor Khuraijam Athouba said that whether the Government of India will protect the state or not is still a big question.
Speaking at a public meeting organised by COCOMI in association with Youth Development Union Club (YDUC) Wangoi, and Apunba Meira Paibi Wangoi at the YDUC premises on Sunday, Athouba expressed serious concern over lack of seriousness by the centre in resolving the crisis gripping the state for almost two years.
Stating that armed Illegal immigrants from Myanmar entered the state and engaged in poppy plantation by clearing forest without any restrictions, he maintained that the infiltrators not only indulge in such illegal activities but also intervene in the government and district administration, consequently resulting in the current crisis.
Further stating that COCOMI had already submitted representation highlighting nexus between Assam Rifles and Kuki militant groups but no response has been received till date, Athouba accused the Government of India of extending tacit support to prolong the crisis, and stressed the need for a public resolution on whether the situation should be allowed to persist or not.
He also reasoned that as the centre has done nothing to resolve the crisis in the last two years, it is high time for the public to take a firm decision to resolve the crisis, which is why COCOMI is organising the public consultation meet on May 3.Similar meetings were also held at Iroisemba, Changangei Heikru Makhong, Kumbi, Langjing Achouba, Nganappithong, Charangpat, Lilong, Wahengbam Leikai, Haobam Marak Keisham Leikai, and Kyamgei in coordination with local clubs and Meira Paibi groups.
