Imphal, July 25 2025:
Hailing all decisions taken by the central and state governments to check illegal migration and immigration in Manipur, Arambai Tenggol GHQ Corps Military Police commissioner Munindro Mangang has pledged the organisation's all possible cooperation and assistance in realisation of the objective, if required.
Briefing the media at Manipur Press Club, here, on Friday, Munin-dro said that the majority Meetei community is at the brink of becoming a minority.
Stakeholders, CSOs and AT had been flagging sharp demographic changes in the state due to influx of illegal immigrants for over two years.
Amid expressions of concern over unrestrained infiltrations, the MHA issued an order regarding guidelines to be followed by illegal immigrants followed by the state government issuing a memorandum on July 23 directing the DCs and SPs for monitoring illegal immigrants with biometrics, which AT supports.
If there is any help needed in identifying illegal immigrants, the 70,000 strong AT youths are ready to assist, he informed.
Extending support to the central and state governments' efforts to save the indigenous identity of the state, Munindro said that with regard to the question of whether illegal immigrants have entered the state or not, the standing order of the Manipur State Durbar Order No 11 on August 18, 1931 notified by the then Captain Harvey acknowledged changes brought by the influx of illegal immigrants into Manipur.
Even if the document is not taken into consideration, the changes brought by illegal immigrants are visible to the naked eye, he said, adding that illegal immigrants pose serious threats to the territorial integrity and unity of the state, apart for creating chaos and tension, resulting in thousands displaced and staying in relief camps.
Munindro then said that AT has no-objection to the delimitation exercise but it should be done as accurately as possible.
The 2026 census should be carried out to identify illegal immigrants in the state, provided that all of the mentioned is done after implementing a framework or mechanism like NRC and identifying the illegal immigrants, he remarked.
The directive, issued on July 23 by Commissioner (Home) N.Ashok Kumar, instructs all Deputy Commissioners and Superintendents of Police to set up robust mechanisms to monitor and prevent unauthorised crossings at international, inter-state, and inter-district boundaries.
Referring to the directive, he declared: "We fully support the state government's memorandum to prevent the entry of illegal immigrants.
Our available resources will be at the government's disposal, if needed".
AT expressed readiness to collaborate with authorities by sharing local intelligence and mobilising manpower to detect and deport illegal migrants.
"Our aim is to contribute meaningfully to ensuring law and order while protecting the rights and security of bonafide citizens," he added.
