Ignore KAPDC call or face action: Kpi SP tells cops

Kangpokpi, April 22 2025: Kangpokpi superintendent of police (SP) has issued a stern warning to all serving personnel of civil police, Manipur Rifles (MR), and India Reserve Battalion (IRB) from Kuki villages in Kangchup area against attending a meeting allegedly called by Kangchup Area Protection and Development Committee (KAPDC) under the aegis of Kuki Inpi, South West Sadar Hills.

According to the official notice issued on Monday, the meeting, reportedly scheduled for April 30 at K Ponlen village, was announced through social media platforms.

The police have termed the announcement illegal and warned that any uniformed personnel found attending the meeting will be considered to have committed gross service misconduct and disciplinary actions will be initiated against them.

The warning came in response to a notice purportedly issued by KAPDC on April 18, which called upon all Kuki chiefs in Kangchup area to send state police, MR, and IRB personnel serving from their villages to the KAPDC office at K Ponlien.

The notice, written in Kuki language and bearing the signatures of chairman Sasat Kipgen and secretary Minlen Lhouvum, went viral on social media, claiming that the meeting was called consequent to detailed discussions with Kuki militant groups.

It further appealed to the attendees by invoking their love for their land.

However, on Monday, after the Kangpokpi SP's warning, a clarification was circulated by KAPDC denying the earlier call.

The clarification, written in English claimed that the statement asking village chiefs to send police personnel was "entirely baseless" and alleged that it was the work of "anti-Kuki elements" aiming to mislead the public and tarnish the image of Kuki civil society organisations, including Kuki Inpi and KAPDC .

It also denied any involvement or consent from "Samsao (SoO groups)", calling it a "deliberate and calculated attempt to damage the reputation of the SoO groups" .

Notably, key discrepancies were observed between the two notices.

The April 18 notice appeared on a KAPDC letterhead featuring a watermark logo and included the names and signatures of its chairman and secretary.

In contrast, the April 21 clarification, although issued on a letterhead, lacked the watermark logo and bore no name of the secretary information, who signed the notice.

Meanwhile, raising concern over the law and order situation in the state, the Meitei Heritage Society said summoning police personnel for such a meeting was a "mockery of India and democracy" .
