Imphal, July 13 2025:
The road stretch from Uripok Canteen Corner to RIMS Hospital, a vital route frequently used by ambulances carrying emergency patients, is riddled with potholes, leading to serious concerns.
This road is heavily used by a large number of vehicles, including heavily loaded trucks coming from the Bir Tikendrajit Flyover, the south-eastern areas, and the Imphal-Jiribam Road.
It also serves as a key access for vehicles coming from the southern part of the city.
Additionally, the stretch is commonly used by employees of RIMS, as well as those working at private hospitals and various government institutions located in Lamphelpat and Langol areas.

Ambulances traveling to and from RIMS and other nearby private hospitals are unable to operate at normal speed due to the numerous potholes dotting the stretch, consequently causing traffic congestion.
The number of potholes continues to increase, primarily due to leakage from underground water pipes.
Over time, these leakages weaken the road surface and develop into potholes.
Whenever water is supplied through the pipelines, the potholes get filled with water.
The same happens during rainfall, making the motorists difficult to negotiate the potholes and exposed to accidents.
The situation is most risky after dusk, with two-wheelers and small vehicles often meeting with accidents due to the invisible, crater-like potholes filled with water.
It is highly unfortunate that the government appears to be taking no action despite the severe inconvenience caused to the public by the potholes.
The department concerned also seems indifferent to the chronic problem of leaking water pipes, leading to the wastage of a significant quantity of water.
If the Public Health and Engineering Department (PHED) were to perform its duties responsibly, there would be no water shortage due to leakages, and the formation of potholes as a result of underground water damage could be avoided.
The Nagamapal stretch is also in a poor condition, leading to an increased volume of traffic along the Uripok Canteen Road.
The section from Nagamapal to the RIMS gate is in a highly dilapidated condition, resulting in minimal traffic along the route.
Although repair work had been initiated, it came to a halt shortly after it began.
As a result, both flanks of the road have now effectively turned into non-designated parking lots.
